Point Lookout Croquet Club, Maryborough, is situated 3 hours north of Brisbane and 25 minutes from Hervey Bay, the ‘Whale Capital of Australia” with Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world, on our doorstep. The Club was officially formed in 1898 and according to press reports at that time a large gathering of women and men of more than 100 attended the opening at the grounds in North Street. The grounds at that time were the lawns at “Stirling” a home closer to the Mary River and a block away from the present croquet lawns. In 1903 the club moved to the present position in North Street and leased the land for an annual rental of Five Pounds until 1959 when the club purchased the land. Point Lookout, can claim to be one of the oldest clubs, if not the oldest, in Queensland but certainly the first club to own their own four full size playing lawns. Over the years dedicated members have work hard to raise funds for the necessary improvements and maintenance. In recent years we have been able to obtain Government Grants which have helped keep the facilities up to a high standard. We love the game and try to encourage its promotion. Visitors are most welcome so please do not hesitate to call when you are in the area.
