The Value of Coaches
Trained and dedicated Coaches are most valuable Club resources. Coaches trained, in accordance procedures and principles established by ACA, CAQ and various government agencies, are equipped to deliver consistent, high quality assistance to players of all levels of experience.
Good players do not necessarily make the best coaches, but experience is highly desirable.
Where Do Coaches Come From?
Potential coaches are generally experienced players who wish to contribute to the sport that they enjoy and those identified by Clubs as having potential. Generally potential coaches will receive guidance from the senior Club Coach who should arrange with the Regional Coaching Coordinator for them to attend the next available qualification course.
Only Coaches Should Coach
The ACA and CAQ policy is that only those qualified to coach should do so. While non qualified club members may have great personal skills, they have not received the appropriate coach training. This training is designed to ensure consistency in language and basic techniques. If non qualified mentors are used, this should be under the guidance of a qualified Coach.
Coach Database
A listing of all current coaches, their qualification and dates due for renewal is provided in the attachment. This is current as at 22 Jan 2012.
Coaching Should Be Fun
For both the providers and recipients of coaching, the process should be enjoyable. Coaching programs should not be so inflexible that they fail to contribute to the social elements of club life. Advanced coaching should not be imposed on those who wish to only play socially at the Club level.
Advanced Coaching
Regional Coordinators and Club Coaches should ensure that advanced coaching is available for those players who wish to progress in and beyond Club play. Players should not hesitate to state their requirements for Coaching and may seek assistance from Club, Regional, or State resources.
Coaching Levels
Currently there are Qld programs for the training and qualification of Coaches in both Association Croquet and Golf Croquet at the Orientation Level and Level 1.
We have a reasonable number, but never enough, Orientation Level Coaches, but there is a need for some of these to take the next step and qualify at Level 1and beyond.
Further Information
Further information may be found on the Association and Golf Croquet Coaching pages of this site, or by contacting your Regional Coaching Coordinator or myself at : coaching@croquetqld.org.
