2019 Gibson Medal Results

24 February 2019

This CAQ Event was hosted by the Burleigh Heads Palm Beach and Coolangatta clubs on the weekend of 16th and 17th February.

Considering the week of weather leading up to the event the players arrived at the venues on Saturday morning to cool overcast conditions. Showers were scattered throughout Saturday and Sunday was a perfect day for croquet. Each venue had a block of 6 players with block A at Burleigh and block B at Coolangatta.

Dave Luxmore, the number 1 seed for the event and playing on his home ground at Burleigh, cleaned up winning all 5 games with his first 3 on Saturday resulting in triple peels. Yuni Rowell, the number 6 player in the block was the runner up with 3 wins. Block B was a more evenly contested affair with Lindsay David winning 4 games and Greg Whymark also winning 4 games but Lindsay David had a better net result by 2 hoops.

The final was played at Coolangatta between Dave and Lindsay but on the day Dave was too good winning 26-1.There was a good number of players and supporters on hand to watch Dave in his first break go straight to rover thus giving Lindsay a contact start to his break. Such was the contact leave that Lindsay was only able to make 1 hoop. Dave was given a dream start when Lindsay went out of court next to Dave's second break ball.

All up a quick final allowing players to get on the road to home with plenty of light left.

Thank you to both clubs for offering their lawns to the CAQ for this event.
