Croquet was first thought of when, in 1905, two meetings
were held at the East Brisbane Bowling Club pavilion to discuss such a proposal. A Mrs A Harley of Kangaroo Point wrote to the South Brisbane Council, applying for a lease of land adjourning the bowling green in Mowbray Park.
A tennis club, formed around the same period, also made application for a court, so in September 1906 both the croquet court and tennis courts, in addition to a cricket pitch, were constructed.
The Club celebrated its centenary in 2005, with a large
crowd visiting to play croquet and to celebrate the occasion.
