Club History

Founded: 1925

The West Toowoomba Croquet Club began on a lawn at the West Toowoomba Bowling Club facing Rome Street, from 1925 to 1941. When the bowlers required these grounds for their own use, the ladies moved to Newtown Park where the City Council gave land to enable the club to continue. With a lot of hard work the then President, Mrs Flegler and her loyal band of ladies levelled the ground, and on their hands and knees planted grass on two lawns.

During the war years the American Army took over the park. Later, the former Army Officer’s Mess hut was obtained by the members and relocated to its present site, and is the Clubhouse today.
