Ricochet, Association & Golf Croquet
Very little is known of the early history of croquet in Hervey Bay. It is know that there was one lawn in the grounds of the Anglican Church in Pialba, where there were a small group of players. Sometime after World War II, the Church decided that they needed the land for other facilities, and this Club was closed.
A Mrs Nissen, who lived not far away in Hunter Street Pialba, offered to relocate the croquet lawn on some land at the rear of her house. The equipment from the Anglican Club was moved there, but it was not a fully sized lawn.
In 1979, with a membership of 11, the Hervey Bay City Council was approached for land. Lack of funds held up the development of this land for several years, although some voluntary clearing was done and later a fence was erected.
