Changes Coming for Administrators of RevSport

Published Fri 31 Mar 2023

What's happening?

Starting from the week of April 3rd, you'll notice certain parts of our platform sporting a fresh new appearance as we initiate our new look platform update. The first update, which is one of the four, will revamp some of our platform features such as injury reports, incident reports, tasks, and meetings.

In order to ensure a seamless transition for our administrators, we are gradually implementing updates to our platform features over the course of a few months. Even though some features may have a new look, they will continue to interact with each other dynamically.

We’ll also temporarily insert a ‘switch back’ button to allow platform admins to change their portal to the previous design. This is to enable admins to gradually acclimate to our new look without disrupting their critical duties. This will last a limited time per feature before being removed.

What is two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication is a security process that requires admins to provide two different forms of identification before accessing their account. This additional layer of authentication helps to prevent unauthorised access to sensitive information and accounts, even if a password has been compromised.

How does it work?

Two-factor identification works by using two unrelated authentication methods to secure an account. The second authentication method usually needs to be verified with a mobile device in your personal possession — such as your phone — in addition to your normal username and password.

A common process is for a combination of a username/password & an authenticator app.

Fortunately, the process is quite simple and we have developed clear, step-by-step guides to support.

Why are we doing this?

TFA is considered best practice in digital security across platforms and industries. It already exists in a number of platforms most of us use in our day to day lives.

With the various data breaches occurring in the industry we are committed to implementing best-practice security measures.

While this will require one additional step from our administrators to ‘validate’ who they are when accessing the platform, we believe it is imperative to do all that we can to help protect your data.

What is an authenticator app?

An authenticator app is an application that generates security codes for two-factor authentication purposes.

The app generates codes based on a short time-based counter, which are then used in combination with a username and password to access an account.

How to set up TFA to access revSPORT’s new look features

Firstly, download an authenticator app from your device’s app store.

Popular apps that you may like to download include Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Authy. These are all free and readily available on your device’s app store.

What will I need to do on the day to set up TFA?

  1. Click one of the new look features.

  2. You will be directed to a page to Set up two-factor authentication.

    • If you are on a mobile device, click the link in Step 2.

    • If you are on a desktop computer, open the authenticator app on your smart device, add a new account, and scan the QR code.

  3. This will automatically create a new account in your authenticator app for your revolutioniseSPORT portal.

  4. Enter the six-digit code shown in your authenticator app into the Passcode field on the Set up two-factor authentication page.

  5. Click Activate two-factor authentication, and you’re done!

⚠️ TFA will rollout in four separate releases over the next few months, meaning that not all features require the use of TFA as of April 3 (release date for Update 1 of 4). For example, Update 1 of 4 only requires administrators to download and utilise an authenticator app in order to access our governance tools (i.e. injury reports, incident reports, meetings & tasks). ⚠️
