Jim Clement, past president of Croquet Victoria, passed away on 9 November 2025. Many Queensland croquet players knew Jim, and had worked with him during his long career. Croquet Queensland acknowledges the many valuable contributions he made to promoting and developing our sport, and offers its condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

Croquet Victoria recently posted the following tribute to Jim.

Jim was essentially a golf croquet player, trying association croquet in recent years. However, was his contribution to supporting the sport where he excelled.

In 2005, Jim established a croquet club at Sarsfield.

Later, when the club folded, he moved his membership to other clubs, including Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance and Sale. While at Sarsfield he commenced a long career in GC refereeing and coaching.

Jim was a golf croquet referee who acted at all levels, from club, region state, national and international. He refereed at the 2009 Women's World Golf Croquet Championship, and was Tournament Referee at the 2017 World Golf Croquet Championship, both held at the Victorian Croquet Centre. He was Tournament Referee at the 2023 WCF Over 50 Golf Croquet Championship held at Bunbury, WA. He was the National Coordinator of Refereeing Golf Croquet for nearly ten years.

It was in his administrative roles that Jim was best known. He served at club, region, state and national level. He was Secretary of Croquet Victoria from 2010 to 2016, a role in which he demonstrated his competency in governance, collegiality and procedures. Following that term, he served as President from 2016 to 2022.

During those years, Jim was a key person in the organising and running of WCF events at the Victorian Croquet Centre. He served as secretary on organising committees (2017 World GC Championship, 2020 World AC Championship, 2022 MacRobertson Shield Championship), and as house manager during the 2012 Women's World AC Championship and the 2020 World AC Championship.

Jim contributed to Croquet Australia in various roles from 2010, including terms as Secretary and Treasurer, and National Handicapper for the last two years.
